The Power Systems business unit of the British technology group Rolls-Royce is one of the world’s leading suppliers of innovative drive, power and service solutions. As a Pimcore partner, we advised the Friedrichshafen-based company, in cooperation with another agency, on the introduction of a PIM system and created a proof of concept. As part of the proof of concept, a data model was to be developed and the import of large amounts of data from an ERP system into Pimcore PIM was to be tested. Learning more about the options for creating print documents was also very important to the company.
For the completeness of the data model, it was of great importance to gain a detailed understanding of the mtu products and to understand which components of the machines should be recorded in which form in the data management and how they relate to each other. Only with this insight can a data model emerge that truly fully maps the business process and products.
In an initial workshop, the requirements for the data model were recorded. Subsequently, in close consultation with the Power Systems business unit, a sophisticated data model was developed to optimally map the desired business process.
After implementing the data model including all object classes and structures for assets in Pimcore, the data import from the ERP system was set up.
A prototype import job was created using the Data Hub. With this, any amount of data could now be imported from the ERP system into Pimcore, so that the completeness of the data model could be finally checked.
The imported data could now be channeled through the respective associated workflows. For this purpose, the display was adapted with custom views and custom layouts for different user groups.
In addition, an export of the data via GraphQL interface was set up and various options for generating print documents were examined and evaluated.
We are convinced that with the proof of concept, together with Rolly-Royce Power Systems, we have created an optimal foundation for the future expansion of a Master Data Management Platform. We are looking forward to further cooperation.
Working with basecom has shown us how major challenges can be solved together in a spirit of partnership. In conclusion, we are very satisfied with the implemented project.
