Six e-commerce technologies from our portfolio have been recognized in Gartner’s ‘Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce 2024’. Gartner analysts have again this year evaluated leading e-commerce technologies based on ‘completeness of vision’ and ‘ability to execute’, offering insights into each system’s strengths and weaknesses. This year, Gartner’s analysis includes 18 digital commerce platforms.

The continued presence of our technology partners in the ‘Magic Quadrant’ underscores the strength of our portfolio strategy, which is designed to support clients with a technology-agnostic approach and a wide selection of e-commerce solutions.
According to the 2024 report, most digital commerce solutions are “delivered as single- or multi-tenant SaaS, or as single-tenant hosted or managed hosted (PaaS) applications”. This highlights a clear shift toward cloud-based solutions, while on-premises deployments are becoming increasingly rare.
The ‘Magic Quadrant’ categorizes vendors into ‘Challengers’, ‘Leaders’, ‘Niche Players’ and ‘Visionaries’ based on their ‘Ability to Execute’ and ‘Completeness of Vision’.

Adobe Commerce/ Magento

As in 2023, Adobe Commerce/Magento remains in the Leaders’ Quadrant, continuing its stronghold in the high-end market, with annual online sales exceeding $250 million. The analyst firm cited Adobe Commerce’s strong core capabilities in the B2C space. In addition, the analysts point to the synergies that can be created by using other Adobe products, such as the AI Adobe Sensei.

Recognized again as a ‘Leader’ in digital commerce, Gartner particularly emphasizes the suitability of commercetools for large companies and points out that commercetools is one of the platforms with the strongest growth in 2023. The modular architecture of the SaaS platform is also a plus for the analysts: as a headless system with extensive APIs and a flexible data model, commercetools enables the composition, expansion and scaling of commerce projects in B2C and B2B.

SAP Commerce Cloud, a recent addition to our portfolio, also retains its position in the ‘Leader’ Quadrant. It’s particularly suited for global enterprises with complex product catalogs and business models, and offers very extensive functionalities for projects in both B2B and B2C environments. In particular, Gartner praises its powerful B2B features and the added value for businesses already using other SAP systems like ERP or CRM.

Shopify Plus

A ‘Leader’ in both 2023 and 2024, Shopify Plus is primarily used by mid-market companies scaling into the enterprise space. The analysts celebrate Shopify for its innovation, noting that the company invested $1.73 billion in research and development in 2023. According to the experts, the SaaS platform is a compelling choice for businesses focused on a rapid time-to-market.

Shopware

Making its fifth appearance in the ‘Magic Quadrant’, Shopware is positioned as a ‘Niche Player’ for its strengths in mid-market and smaller enterprise segments, both B2C and B2B. Its flexibility across SaaS, PaaS, and on-premises deployment, coupled with intuitive storefront management and product innovations, such as 3D visualization and augmented reality, makes it a standout for mid-size businesses.

Spryker

Elevated from ‘Visionary’ to ‘Leader’ in 2024, Spryker Cloud Commerce OS has quickly become a favorite among large enterprises. Gartner attributes this to Spryker’s modular architecture, which supports complex business models for organizations in B2C or B2B with annual revenues exceeding $100 million.
