This year, particular attention was paid to AI capabilities. All leading platforms have significantly expanded their offerings in this area.
Gartner regularly evaluates the top providers in various technology areas in the Magic Quadrant. The Gartner Magic Quadrant is divided into the categories “Challengers,” “Leaders,” “Niche Players,” and “Visionaries.” Individual vendors and technologies are positioned within the quadrant based on the criteria “Ability to Execute” and “Completeness of Vision.”
The number of technologies included in this year’s “Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce Platforms” has shrunk from 19 to 14 by 2026.
Adobe Commerce/Magento is once again a Leader in the Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce. According to the analysts, Adobe’s latest releases aim to embed AI across all areas of the platform. This includes discoverability in AI searches, conversational commerce (dialog-based shopping), and AI-powered landing page development.
According to Gartner, Adobe is particularly well-suited for medium and large enterprises. The platform supports both B2B business models and B2C applications.
In 2026, commercetools was named a Leader in the Digital Commerce category for the seventh time.
According to Gartner, commercetools is primarily used by large enterprises across a wide range of industries. Gartner’s analysts viewthe architecture of the commercetoolsplatform as aparticular strength. It follows the API-first principle and consists of microservices that can be combined independently of one another. The core commerce layer is separated from the AI layer. The connection is established via the MCP server and the AI Hub. This allows companies to integrate their own AI models, deploy operational agents, and tap into new agent-based commerce channels without affecting the commerce logic.
SAP Commerce Cloud has been named a Leader for the twelfth time in 2026. According to Gartner, the platform is primarily used by large, internationally active companies. The analysts see its greatest strength in its close integration with ERP. Inventory, prices, and customer-specific authorizations are synchronized in real time via SAP S/4HANA. As in the previous year, Gartner emphasizes its strength in handling complex business models: B2B, B2C, and B2B2X can be managed from a single platform in multiple languages and currencies. When it comes to agentic commerce, SAP relies on standards and natively supports Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) as well as MCP.
Shopify and Shopify Plus are also listed as leaders in 2026. According to Gartner, the platform is primarily used by medium and large enterprises in retail and wholesale, as well as by manufacturers with their own direct sales channels. When it comes to Agentic Commerce, analysts see Shopify in the lead. With Agentic Storefronts and support for the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), stores can be integrated with ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, and Meta without additional development effort. On the backend, the AI assistant Sidekick handles operational tasks. Added to this is the company’s financial strength: According to Gartner, Shopify’s revenue is growing faster than that of the other leaders. In the “Ability to Execute” category, Shopify achieved the highest score of all evaluated providers.
Shopware is appearing in the Magic Quadrant for the seventh time in 2026 and is the only vendor classified in the “Visionaries” quadrant. Compared to the previous year, Shopware has improved in the “Completeness of Vision” dimension. The analysts attribute this classification primarily to Shopware’s vision for Agentic Commerce. The platform offers its own sales channel for Agentic Commerce and an MCP server, and supports the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP). This allows product data to be fed directly to ChatGPT or Gemini. In the B2B sector, Shopware stands out with a native portal that includes Digital Sales Rooms, enabling video consultations, co-browsing, and quote negotiations without the need for additional modules. An integrated AI copilot is available for day-to-day backend work.
Spryker is classified as a niche player in 2026, after the platform was still ranked among the “Visionaries” the previous year. According to Gartner, medium and large B2B companies in manufacturing, wholesale, distribution, and construction rely on Spryker. These are precisely the areas where the analysts highlight its strengths. The modular architecture maps complex B2B processes, including marketplace modules. The B2B self-service portal—featuring asset management, service requests, quotes, and reorders—is included in all plans at no extra charge. For development teams, Spryker offers the AI Dev SDK, an AI toolkit that covers the entire development cycle.
