SAP Commerce Cloud: E-Commerce Systems in Comparison Part 5

Written by Albert Levay | Apr 21, 2026 8:14:31 AM

SAP Commerce Cloud has been part of our portfolio of e-commerce technologies since 2024. SAP Commerce Cloud is one of the leading solutions for digital commerce and offers companies a powerful, scalable and flexible platform and seamless integration into existing SAP systems. In the fourth part of our blog series, you will learn about the benefits of SAP Commerce Cloud and why the platform is a good solution for large and growing companies.

SAP Commerce Cloud - Enterprise Commerce from Walldorf

SAP Commerce Cloud, formerly SAP Hybris, is a leading omnichannel e-commerce platform that can serve as the foundation for any digital e-commerce infrastructure and enable a successful customer experience. The flexible and extensible cloud platform covers a wide range of applications, from online stores and service portals to back-office apps. It is based on a modular structure in which the modules can be used individually or as a complete solution. SAP Commerce Cloud, which has been rated as a "Leader" by Gartner in 2024 for the tenth time in a row, is characterized by high innovation speed and reduced total cost of ownership. This modern and standardized platform is based on open standard technologies that ensure scalability and extensibility. SAP Commerce Cloud was developed as an enterprise solution specifically for large mid-sized and global companies. One of the strengths of SAP Commerce Cloud is the ability to personalize and address specific target groups. The integrated product content management system enables the maintenance, enrichment and consolidation of product data, making data management easier. The platform's scalable and future-proof infrastructure ensures that companies are always optimally supported, even with growing volumes and increasing requirements.

What does SAP Commerce Cloud have to offer?

SAP Commerce Cloud is part of the SAP family and has standardized interfaces that enable seamless connection to other SAP systems such as SAP ERP, SAP CRM, SAP SRM and SAP CAR, increasing efficiency through automated and digitized business processes. Non-SAP systems can also be easily integrated.
SAP Commerce Cloud offers integrated functions for content management, order management, online configuration, variant creation and personalization. The modern, responsive and customizable user interface is optimized for all end devices. Standardized interfaces enable rapid implementation, and the cost-saving operation through SAP's cloud service makes the platform even more attractive. Thanks to standardized connections to SAP systems and special B2B functions, SAP Commerce Cloud is particularly attractive for large medium-sized and globally active companies. The platform enables the electronic processing of sales and order management as well as interaction with end customers and sales partners via various channels. It also supports the online presentation of dynamic content and the entire order processing, including payment processes, customer support and returns management.

End of support for SAP Commerce On-Premise

SAP will end support for SAP Commerce On-Premise in July 2026 and clearly steer customers to the SAP Commerce Cloud. At the same time, Accelerator storefronts and associated OCC templates will be removed from the product from 2027. This will make it necessary to migrate to the Composable Storefront or comparable modern front-end architectures. Search will also be moved from local Solr to cloud-based services.
If you are currently still using SAP Commerce On-Premise, you should therefore prepare now to switch to SAP Commerce Cloud or another platform and plan your frontend modernization and search strategy. We are happy to offer you our support.

AI integration & SAP BTP

SAP Commerce Cloud becomes the core of an AI-enabled CX stack that is developed, integrated and operated via SAP BTP (SAP Business Technology Platform). BTP provides the unified platform for integration (Integration Suite, Event Mesh), extensibility and data access and, with SAP Business AI (incl. AI Core/AI Launchpad), provides the basis for embedding GenAI assistants, recommendations and automated processes cleanly into commerce journeys and orchestrating them across the suite. SAP Commerce uses the Composable Storefront as a front end, integrates AI functions such as the AI Shopping Assistant and the SAP CX AI Toolkit and connects processes with Sales, Service and Marketing via the Integration Suite and Event Mesh. This creates agent-based, contextualized journeys on a shared platform that generates content, refines searches and recommendations, converts dialogues into orders and distributes events in real time in the suite.

Conclusion

SAP Commerce Cloud is a good choice for companies with complex requirements and individual processes. This applies in particular – but not exclusively – if an SAP landscape already exists. In conjunction with SAP BTP, SAP Commerce becomes expandable, integrable and data-driven. SAP Business AI and the CX AI Toolkit take consulting, search, personalization and operations to a new level. The Composable Storefront accelerates innovation in the front end, while continuous innovation releases guarantee security and functional progress.
