Performance boost for premiumXL with Hyvä Themes

premiumXL is a leading online retailer in the home and living sector, operating in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, France and Hungary. The company offers a wide range of affordable, high-quality furniture, garden furniture, home textiles and more.

premiumXL maintains a strong presence on several major online marketplaces and has operated its own online shop since 2007. To further diversify its sales channels and strengthen its brand, premiumXL aims to enhance its online shop as a key sales platform. The company recognizes the importance of a high-performance, user-friendly website with excellent visibility. To achieve this, premiumXL relies on the Adobe Commerce e-commerce system. In our joint project, we were tasked with redesigning the online shop using the innovative and high-performance Hyvä front-end and migrating the shop to a new host.

In our joint project with premiumXL, we undertook a comprehensive conversion of the online shop to the new Hyvä front-end and migrated it to a specialized host from our partner network. This transformation was completed within a tight timeframe of just four months. The primary challenge was to optimize the existing URL structure without compromising the shop’s visibility.

Adobe Commerce

After assuming management of premiumXL’s Adobe Commerce shop, we made several adjustments post-migration to a new host, focusing on optimizing the shop’s performance.


We introduced the capability to display SEO-relevant content for individual product variants on detailed product pages. To boost the shop’s visibility, we utilized the page builder to implement content areas on the category pages.


The most significant measure in our project with premiumXL was the implementation of a new front-end based on Hyvä Themes.

Hyvä Themes

Hyvä Themes is an innovative and powerful front-end solution for Magento and Adobe Commerce shop systems. Unlike headless solutions, Hyvä is integrated directly into the shop system, replacing the classic Magento front-end. It is designed to be lightweight and free from unnecessary complexity. Compared to other front-end solutions, Hyvä excels in performance and usability, making it an excellent choice for optimizing Magento and Adobe Commerce shops.


Working closely with the premiumXL team, we implemented a customized front-end solution based on Hyvä and seamlessly integrated it with the Luma Checkout. The new front-end has significantly improved the performance of the Adobe Commerce online shop.

UX & UI

We revamped the menu and URL structure to present premiumXL’s extensive product range in a well-organized manner across both mobile and desktop versions. For this, we designed a new three-level navigation system.

In addition, individual filter options were added, new subcategory menus created, and the existing country pages reorganized and optimized.

Our UI team crafted a minimalist and clean front-end design, which was seamlessly implemented in collaboration with the development team.

The new shop has been a resounding success, with sales doubling or even tripling over the past year. We will continue to manage and develop the shop on a daily basis and look forward to ongoing collaboration with the premiumXL team.
